Based on the legend, following the death of his dad, ErtuÄŸrul and his followers entered the support of this Seljuks of Rum, for which he had been rewarded together with dominion over town of Söğüt on the frontier using all the Byzantine Empire. This set from the series of events which will eventually contribute to the founding of this Ottoman Empire. Like his son, Osman, as well as their personalities, ErtuÄŸrul is usually called a Ghazi, a heroic winner fighter for the cause of Islam. ErtuÄŸrul (Ottoman Turkish: ارطغرل, romanized: Erá¹oÄ¡rıl, literary : ErtuÄŸrul Gazi; often with the title Gazi) (died c. 1280) was the father of Osman I. Based on Ottoman heritage , he was the son of Suleyman Shah, leader of this Kayı tribe of Oghuz Turks, that fled from western Central Asia to Anatolia to escape the Mongol conquests, however he may alternatively have been the son of some Gündüz Alp.
